you say you found the truth on your side
no more holding back and onto past lies
pull back the veil to see what you’ve been missing
you are my master of disguise,
the after-hour guest kept waiting in the living room
just keep on waiting
twiddle your thumbs for a few more minutes, stare at flowers on the wall
pattern pretty and just made ready, family pictures in the hall
the smell of eggs burning in the other room in bloom, it leaves a stain
the color’s fading and the smell of home eventually disappears
I can’t make out the thought you had
maybe it’s not meant for me to hear and ponder upon
can you show me what I’ve been missing
it’s too soon to notice the damage that’s been done to you
I can’t get rid of the blur
the color’s fading, left in the 80’s,
the smell of eggs burning in the other room
an afternoon of surfing the black and white tv set
stare at flowers left to rot, jump the gun before the show
can you show me what I’ve been missing
- quiet mornings here no longer
- the smell of home eventually disappears
It's unfortunate that Marietta disbanded, but they couldn't have ended on a better note. As it Were is a reflection into a lot of youths' struggle with both aging and losing friends to time, and that it's okay to feel those things, even if for a little while. Halfrican Jones
Perfectly encapsulates the teenage experience. Finding this album while still young and in high school was the best decision I've made in quite awhile. charlesjr
